A teenage girl, Allie, has taken her little brother, Cal, and run away from home, taking up residence in a bare shack by a mountain stream. She has chosen poverty over abuse. Cal provides them with fish to eat; Allie struggles to provide everything else. When Cal's hook catches something he wasn't fishing for, the two begin to find themselves in a larger, more perilous net—a net whose repeating meshes Allie finds uncomfortably close to home.
